Those gamers had been playing online titles for quite some time on their PlayStation 3 devices, and if they didn?t have an Xbox 360, they didn?t have a worthwhile online-gaming experience to turn to.
While all that was going on, I didn?t miss PlayStation Network one bit. I went about my day, playing games as I normally do, and didn?t even think once about PlayStation Network.
Though I?m singling out the PlayStation Network, I could say the same for Microsoft?s Xbox LIVE platform. If the worst occurred and that service was breached, forcing the software giant to take it offline, I wouldn?t have missed it one bit.
See, I don?t like online gaming. I?ve tried it many times in the past, and I?ve found that it?s not for me.
My biggest issue with online gaming is that I simply don?t have the time to dedicate to it to even be good enough to play. When I tried Call of Duty: Black Ops on Xbox LIVE last year, I found myself getting killed with ease by players that have more skill than I think I?d ever be able to build up. For a while, I tried to improve my ability and play more; but after a while, I realized that I didn?t have the time to do it. And after continuing to get killed quickly, I decided that sticking with offline multiplayer with friends was a much better option for me.
But that?s just one small part of my issue with online gaming. The biggest problem I have with it is the user base. Far too often when I go online to relax and play a few games with others around the world, I find them to be unbearable. They yell, bark orders, taunt, and say some of the most amazingly obnoxious things I?ve ever heard. After just a few minutes of it, I?ve heard enough.
For me, the only way to play online is with some friends. We find a time to get on our consoles and play together. It?s a simple, more-relaxed option that delivers the kind of experience that many folks enjoy when they?re playing with others around the world.
So, although some were upset to see PlayStation Network bite the dust for a month, I wasn?t fazed at all. I thought the move was a smart one on Sony?s part, and I welcomed the company actually doing its part to ensure something like this doesn?t happen again. And all the while, I continued to play games on my PlayStation 3 (and other consoles) just as I did prior to the breach.
I know there are few people who agree with me, but I just don?t see the value of online gaming the way most folks do. As far as I?m concerned, the offline world is a much better place for gamers.

Ex-husband Of Schwarzenegger Mistress Speaks Out

The former husband of Arnold Schwarzenegger's alleged mistress has spoken of the "betrayal" he feels after learning the movie star-turned-politician may have fathered his son.
The action man came clean last week (ends20May11) and confessed he'd fathered a lovechild with a housekeeper 13 years ago. The maid has been identified as long-time Schwarzenegger help Mildred Baena.
And now her ex-husband, Rogelio Baena, has revealed he thought the boy was his biological son.
In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly magazine, he has made it clear he still wants to be the kid's dad, stating, "I am your father. That's all."
Rogelio Baena calls the romance between his wife and her former boss and lover a "betrayal", admitting he always thought Schwarzenegger was a "hero".
The Baenas ended their 10-year marriage in 1997 just weeks after the child was born. Mildred filed for divorce in 2008.

You may be able to deduct certain expenses for the part of your home you use for business whether you are self-employed or are an employee.
Amend a State Tax Return
Part of your home must be regularly and exclusively used for business to deduct expenses for home based business tax breaks.
Here are the guidelines:
?Your home must be the principal place of business for your trade or business
?Your home must be the place where you meet and take care of your clients, patients, or customers in the normal course of business or your trade
?If you use a separate structure that is not attached to your house it must be in connection with your business or trade
Home Based Business Exclusive Use Rule
There is something called the exclusive use of requirement rule. This means you cannot deduct a home based business tax break if you also use that part of your home for personal use. For example, if you use a spare bedroom as an office and conduct your business in there, you then cannot use the same bedroom as a guest room. If the spare room is used for any personal use you can?t claim the space as a tax deduction.
Principal Place Of Business
There is a test called the principal-place-of-business test. You must determine that your home is the principal place of your business or trade. You must determine where your most important activities are performed and where most of your time is spent, in order to deduct expenses for the business use of your home.

Deductions also may be taken for the regular use of a residence if you?re providing day care services or for business storage purposes; exclusive use is not required in these cases. If you rent out your residence you also may take deductions, see Publication 587.
Home Based Business Tax Breaks That Are Not Allowed
You may not deduct expenses for lawn care, new landscaping in general or for redecorating a room that is not used for business. Deductible expenses for a home based business use include the business portion of real estate taxes, deductible mortgage interest, rent, casualty losses, utilities, insurance, depreciation, maintenance and repairs.
To figure the amount you can deduct for the home based business tax break, you can use the entire amount of expenses attributable solely to the portion of the home used in your business.
File an Amended Tax Return
The percentage of your home used for business determines the amount you can deduct for expenses.
To calculate this percentage, divide the number of square feet used for business by the total square feet of your home. If the rooms are about the same size then, base it on how many rooms you have in total by how many are used solely for business. If you?re a day care provider then, it?s based on how many hours are used for business by how many hours are used for personal use.

It's a Girl for David Schwimmer!
David Schwimmer and Zoe Buckman have a special reason to smile today: the married couple is the proud new parents of a baby girl!
Tweeted the former Friends star today, of the child born May 8: "Hey everyone. Please welcome my daughter, Cleo, to this crazy but wonderful world."
Cleo is the first child for Schwimmer and Buckman, a 25-year old British photographer. They wed in a small, private ceremony last June.

The good and bad of storage benchmarking

In my post last week, I talked about new record-breaking SPC-1 performance benchmark results for TMS's new RamSan-630. Judging by the email response, that lead many of you to wonder exactly what the Storage Performance Council is and what makes those results any more interesting than other third-party storage benchmarks.
In a field as complex as enterprise storage, building testing mechanisms that accurately reflect real life and provide any real value to end-users is fantastically difficult. With such an incredibly wide range of enterprise storage workloads and products, it's impossible to build a benchmark that has any hope of resembling all of them.
That said, the testing mechanisms used by the SPC are among the best -- not only due to the thoroughness of the tests themselves, but because the documentation and auditing required to submit a public result is quite elaborate. In fact, the documentation is often more interesting to a prospective storage buyer than the performance results themselves.
