The 3way House in Adachi-ku features an inbuilt climbing wall ...

Going Up 3 Ways

A modern and unique house, located in Adachi-ku, Tokyo, which features three different means of getting upstairs: an inbuilt climbing wall, ladders and more traditionally, a staircase. The house is called The 3way House, and was designed and created by Naf Architect & Design, headed by Akio Nakasa.

The house stands on a 90.71 square meters of land, and was completed in 2010. Surrounded by old and new buildings, the house stands on a corner street and conforms to the minimum building height which is 7 meters above ground. The owners of the house wanted a two-story structure made of wood, with a deck roof that resembles a room without a ceiling surrounded by two-meter walls.

The stand out feature though is the climbing wall that leads from the porch to the rooftop. The ladders go up from the living room to the hobby room, while the stairs are located and accessible from the kitchen to the sun room.? The vertical access also allows air and light to come in, which goes well with the colors and design of the rooms themselves.

The designers created this to provide the owners with versatile living space, mixing leisure and socialization in the family and with their neighbors.
