Manila, Philippines (AHN Sports) ? Filipino billiard champs Dennis Orcullo and Ronato Alcano pulled off near flawless performances to demolish Austrians Mario He and Jasmin Ouschan, 8-2 Thursday night at the 2011 World Cup of Pool.
Already world champs in their own rights, the tandem of Orcullo and Alcano moved a step closer to winning their first World Cup of Pool title after punching a ticket to the second round with an 8-2 mastery over their Austrian opponents.
Ouschan, the most successful cue artist in women?s billiard today, teamed up with compatriot He to challenge the finest billiards players in the world.
Ouschan and He started the match on fire after the winning the first two racks, but Orccullo and Alcano finally unleashed their true capability and won eight straight racks.
The No.2 seed Orcullo and Alacano became the second Filipino tandem to barge into the second round after Efren Bata Reyes and Francisco ?Django? Bustamante ? two-time World Cup of Pool champs ? punched into the next round.
Meanwhile, the tournament also saw a couple of huge upsets as Dutch tandem of World 10-ball champ Huidji See and Marco Teutscher fell to Thai pair of Nitiwat Kanjanasri and Kobkit Palajin, 8-0.
The touted American tandem of Corey Deuel and Mike Dechaine also succumbed to Singaporeans Chan Keng Kwang and Bernard Tey.
